6 easy ways to drink more water

Water. The source of life.

We all know that we should be drinking more water. We all know the benefits of drinking more water. What we all may not know is how to actually drink more water. It’s a bit of an “easier said than done” concept. I’ve been there. But over the past few years I’ve made an increased effort to drink more H₂0, by using some strategies that I’m going to share with you today.

USE AN APP TO SET GOALS

If you’re anything like me, goals will drive you better than anything and largely motivate you to achieve the task at hand. How do I do that, you ask? Like many things these days, there’s an app for it! My personal favourite is called “My Water”. It allows you to track your water intake and you can set daily goals, where you can visually calculate your fluid intake and how close you are to your goal. The best part? ITS FREE

HYDRATE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING

As soon as you get up in the morning, have at least a glass of water. This not only kick starts your metabolism, but it means you’re hydrated at the start of your day, making it less detrimental if you miss some drinks throughout the day.

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE AESTHETICS


If you’re a visual person, this may work for you. Purchase a cute water bottle or tumbler cup, doesn’t have to be expensive, mine was $2 from target. However for some, a more pricey bottle may make a better incentive to drink more, as you won’t want to waste money. A more attractive drink apparatus is more likely to encourage you to drink water regularly and therefore, drink more water overall.

MAKE WATER THE ONLY THING YOU DRINK

If you’re finding it really hard to fit in more water, try making it the only thing you drink. This means cutting out or significantly reducing your intake of soft drinks, juices, alcohol etc. This way may not work for everyone as it can be difficult, but it definitely worked for me.

ADD WATER TO YOUR SMOOTHIES


If you’re a smoothie person like me, using water as the liquid instead of milk or juice is a great way to increase your water intake. It may take some getting used to, but eventually, you won’t notice the difference.

DON’T LIKE THE TASTE? FLAVOUR IT WITH FRUIT!

If you’re someone who despises drinking water because it tastes too bland for you, you can add some extra flavour with fruit. You can add strawberries, cucumber, lemon, or even watermelon. This makes the taste a bit more bearable, and some extra fruit never hurt anybody!

    I need to do better as far as my water intake goes. I definitely add fruit to make it more palatable and you’re right, the aesthetic can’t be overlooked! I’m a sucker for a cute tumbler with a straw! Thanks for sharing!

    I always carry a water bottle round with me, and this has helped so much! I have a bottle which you can add fruit too, i really didnt think i was going to like it because i hate the taste of water, but i am pleasantly surprised!xo
